Locally-made heirloom grain pasta on sale now at the 🔗 in bio!

As many small business owners will tell you, starting your own business isn’t for the faint of heart. However, for Boulder’s natural food industry, the farmers market has proven to be a place where emerging food businesses can get their foot in the door.

Pastificio Boulder is the perfect example. 🍝

Claudia Bouvier and Ted Steen launched their business at the Boulder Farmers Market and quickly amassed a following. Their products blend ingredients sourced from market vendors to create an innately local product that has mass appeal, which allowed them to quickly scale into wholesale. You can now find Pastificio Boulder’s craft pasta at Whole Foods locations throughout the region, and while they may not be at the Boulder Farmers Market anymore, their pastas remain available through our online store.

Our community has shown up this season in the wind

Our community has shown up this season in the wind, sunshine, and snow! You have no idea the difference this makes to our farmers - especially at the start of the season. Your investment in them allows for them to invest in their farms, which leads to beautiful produce through the whole season for all of us. A win/win!

☀️ We appreciate the sunshine because it helps plants to grow and makes market a fun place to spend a morning in community!

❄️ We appreciate snow because it insulates crops to make them more resistant to colder temps!

💧We appreciate the rain because we need that precipitation soaking into the soil and then the roots of crops!

💨 We appreciate the wind because it means spring is upon us…

This season we hope to further uplift food justice

This season we hope to further uplift food justice in our community. Can you help?

Food justice means increasing access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally-appropriate food for all. This means we aim to expand the production and purchase of culturally relevant foods, or foods that are commonly preferred and consumed by people with shared beliefs, values, and behaviors in our community.

We are looking for: black beans, tomatillos, okra, lemongrass, Enoki mushrooms, grape leaves, and more! If you know where we could source more culturally relevant foods, have suggestions on what foods you would like to be grown in our community, or are a producer of these foods yourself - get in touch!

In honor of Earth Day, we want to highlight the ways that a few Boulder County farms are taking their farming practices to the next level and not only decreasing their impact on the environment, but leaving the land better than they found it.

This Boulder County ranch focuses on restoring prairie land with their farming practices, constantly rotating their cattle and partnering with public and private landowners to restore natural ecosystems.

MASA Farm & Seed Foundation is creating a bio-regional seed bank to work towards a deeper sense of regional food sovereignty – giving people access to healthy and culturally appropriate food, as well as agency in their food systems.

🐝 @bouldervalleyhoney
These bees forage up to five miles from their hives, producing honey that is unique to the local flora in Boulder County. Pollinating native plants and focusing on ecosystem management, Boulder Valley Honey gives back to the land that helps produce their delicious product.

Did anything else ever have a chance against our delicious Western Slope peaches?? While we count down the days until peach season returns, the wait can be made sweeter but enjoying what we preserved last season. Luckily, we still have peach and peach plum jam from @elafamilyfarms available in our online market!
