Eating Local this Winter

This weekend may be the final Boulder Farmers Market of the season, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until April to get your hands on local food. Your last opportunity to shop in person will be at our Winter Market, held annually at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on the first weekend of December. Then, shop through the winter with our Food Hub and enjoy local goodies with the ease of shopping from your home.

Stock Up at the Last Markets

Just ask Josh at Aspen Moon Farm and you will no longer question if there is local produce this time of year in Colorado. Fresh greens, multiple varieties of cabbage, carrots, radishes, beets, squash, and leeks are only a few of the items you can find under their purple tent this weekend. Not to mention dried goods like beans, popcorn, and dried flowers that are preserved to last!

Plus, this weekend is a great opportunity to get started on your holiday hosting prep with the makings of delicious grazing boards overflowing with cured meats, nut butters, hummus, chips, salsas and more. And while you are at it, stop and chat with your local producers and learn their tips for storing, preserving, and enjoying their products into the new year.

If you can’t make it this weekend, many of our incredible food vendors, plus some new faces and talented artisans will bring their best on Saturday December 6 and 7 at our annual Winter Market. Stop by, celebrate an incredible season, and support your local producers!

Year-Round Food Hub

Still looking for more ways to eat local? You’re in luck. Our online market is open year-round, giving you access to Colorado-grown and Colorado-made food throughout the colder winter months. You’ll find plenty of storage crops like potatoes, onions, and apples, plus hothouse-grown leafy greens and more.

If you’re missing your favorite packaged-goods vendors, check to see whether they sell through our online market — there’s no need to go months without your favorite nut butter, honey, hot sauce, or bread. The shop (bcfm.org/shop) is open each weekend from Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 1 p.m., with pick-up locations in Boulder, Longmont, and Lafayette.

Seasonal Subscription Box

We know year-round local food sounds delicious, but life gets busy. Maybe you forget to order or don’t have the brainpower to decide what you want, and then you’re stuck waiting until the next order period. That’s why we created our Seasonal Subscription Box program.

It works just like a farm CSA: purchase eight weeks of local goodies up front, and we’ll do the curation for you. Each week, simply pick up your subscription box at the location of your choice and enjoy eating locally, discovering new products, and removing one item from your weekly to-do list.

We offer omnivore, vegan, and gluten-free options so you can be sure your box meets your dietary needs every week. Omnivore boxes include meat or eggs alongside a variety of produce and pantry items, while vegan boxes feature locally made tofu and tempeh.

Customers who use SNAP benefits can sign up for the produce-only SNAP Share in the online store. Thanks to Double Up Food Bucks, SNAP customers can pay $20 each week using their EBT card and receive double the value in produce.

The Winter Subscription Box will run from January 7 through February 25, making it the perfect gift for foodie friends and family this holiday season. Visit bcfm.org/seasonal-subscription-box to sign up today.
