Final Longmont Market of the Season

The time has come to say our goodbyes to the Longmont Farmers Market for the season. Thirty-three weeks of delicious local produce, live tunes in the sunshine, and heartfelt community gatherings culminate this Saturday, November 15.

Every year, we find ourselves wondering how the time passed so quickly, and this year is no different. Already daydreaming of spring cherries and summer peaches, it is difficult not to be eager for April. But we — namely our incredible vendor community — also welcome a slower season filled with rest, family, and plenty of planning to make next season even more incredible.

While you likely have your market routine down by now, we have a few recommendations to help you make the most of our final Longmont market this weekend.

Peak Sharpening has got your knife, tool, and blade sharpening covered at the Longmont Farmers Market.

Knife Sharpening

If you find yourself turning around before reaching the far ends of the market, use this final week to explore vendors you might have missed. One such vendor is Peak Sharpening, our knife, tool, and blade sharpening experts. It’s well known that sharp tools make cooking (and anything else that requires them — like chopping wood, yard work, or shaving) safer and easier. So give yourself the gift of sharp knives before the holidays! Drop your knives off, shop around, and head home ready to get cooking.

Buying in Bulk

Another great way to prepare for the holidays and the winter beyond is to buy in bulk this weekend. Not only will it save you money (as most vendors discount bulk purchases), but it also allows you to continue eating locally through the cold winter months. Items like onions, garlic, potatoes, and squash all store well for weeks or even months — just ask your farmer for their tips and tricks.

For example, Noah Kropp from First Fruits Organic Farms says that storing Fujis in a cool, dry space with lots of airflow allows you to enjoy Colorado-grown apples well into March and April!

Relax and Enjoy

If you’re a weekly grocery shopper at the market, take this last week as an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the beautiful community you’ve helped create. Singer-songwriter Lucas Wolf will be playing some tunes, hot coffee will be flowing from Silver Canyon Coffee and Fair Isle Coffee, and the food court will be buzzing with delicious fall flavors. Make a morning out of your final market trip — bring the whole family!

Final Market Festivities

As always, we’ll have a few special activities to celebrate the end of an incredible market season. Stop by the Longmont Farmers Market and guess the weight of a squash grown by one of our vendors for a chance to win some farmers market merch — and, of course, take home the giant squash!

For another opportunity to win merchandise, play Market Bingo by grabbing a bingo card from the Market Info Booth and making purchases from vendors to cross off five items in a row!

What’s Next

While we have to say goodbye to the Longmont Farmers Market for the season, there are still a few more events on the horizon. Our final Boulder Farmers Market will be next week on Saturday, November 22, with more opportunities for squash-weight guessing and bingo card fun.

Plus, our annual Winter Market is coming up and will be filled with even more chances to shop local, buy in bulk, and jumpstart your holiday gift shopping. Join us at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for our very final market of the year!
