Introducing the Winter Market Share

Winter is coming. The heat has been cranked, sweaters and beanies pulled out of storage, and the first freeze has reached our front range crops, marking the beginning of the end of market season. Shoppers can still expect to find a wide variety of produce at the farmers markets in Boulder and Longmont over the next few weeks, as the last harvest of root vegetables, winter squash, and staples such as onions and garlic make their way to the market booth. Now is the time to stock up on your favorite items and choose your favorite way to make them last: whether it’s canning, pickling, freezing, or just sharing with those closest to you.

While our last on-street markets in Boulder and Longmont will be taking place on Saturday, November 19th, that doesn’t mean supporting our local food producers has to end. To make eating local as convenient and delicious as possible, Boulder County Farmers Market is adding a new way to shop from our online marketplace: a Winter Market Share.

Think of it as a Farmers Market sampler, where instead of picking food up from one farm each week, you’ll receive a wide variety of produce, protein, and packaged goods from your favorite local producers. With options for both small (1-2 people) and large (2-4 people) shares, the Winter Market Share is ideal for anyone looking for:

  • A way to continue enjoying local food and supporting Colorado producers throughout the winter months
  • The ability to “set it and forget it” rather than placing a custom order each week
  • New, interesting ingredients and products to help break you out of your recipe rut

Winter Market Shares will be available for eight weeks starting the week December 5th (with no shares available the weeks of December 20 and December 27) and ending the week of February 6th. Each share will include fresh produce from Colorado farmers, meat-friendly or vegetarian protein options, and a variety of packaged or frozen local goods like pasta, hot sauce, and coffee. Winter Market Share customers can pick up their orders each week at Boulder County Farmers Markets curbside pickup locations:

  • Boulder: Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the parking lot on the corner of 13th St and Canyon Blvd
  • Longmont: Sundays from 11:00 am and 12:00 pm at the Boulder County Farmers Markets warehouse, 1821 Lefthand Circle, Unit D
  • Lafayette: Thursdays from 4:00 and 5:30 pm on the corner of East Simpson Street and Michigan Ave
  • Denver: Sundays from 10:00 to 11:00 am at The Source in RiNo Parking Lot (3350 Brighton Boulevard)

Pre-orders for the Winter Market Share are on sale now through November 20th. Invest in a small share for the season for just $360 ($45 per week) or in a large share for $480 ($60 per week). Thanks to the Double Up Food Bucks program, SNAP customers can receive a discounted Winter Market Share of $240 for a small share and $320 for a large share.

Every purchase of Boulder County Farmers Markets’ Winter Shares helps uplift local farmers and producers whose income usually takes a hit over the winter months. Your support of Winter Shares will ripple through dozens of local vendors and allow them to sustain their businesses all year long.

Visit our online marketplace to purchase a Winter Market Share today. In addition to the Winter Market Shares, Boulder County Farmers Market will continue to offer weekly curbside distributions throughout the year. And don’t forget to grab your favorite winter puffy (we know you have one!) and head to the market in Boulder and Longmont for farm-fresh produce, locally-made products, and a warm coffee each Saturday through November 19th.
